Age at sexual development is surmised at 5ââ¬7 years old, and they bring forth a colossal number of eggs. A sea sunfish was once found with an expected 300 million eggs in her ovary-more than researchers have ever found in anyâ vertebrateâ species. When an egg is prepared, the incipient organism develops into little spiked hatchlings with a tail. Subsequent to bring forth, the spikes and tail vanish and the child sunfish looks like a little grown-up. The life expectancy of a sea sunfish is as long as 23 years. Protection Status The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has recorded the sea sunfish as Vulnerable. As of now, sunfish are not focused for human utilization, yet they are jeopardized by bycatch. Revealed evaluates in California are that 14 percent to 61 percent of the fish got by individuals looking for swordfish is sunfish; in South Africa, they make up 29 to 79 percent of the catch expected for horse mackerel, and in the Mediterranean, a bewildering 70 to 95 percent of the absolute catch for swordfish is, truth be told, sea sunfish. The worldwide populace of sunfish is hard to decide, since they invest such a great amount of energy in profound water, in spite of the fact that labeling has gotten increasingly normal. Sunfish might be a significant piece of the planets changing environment under environmental change: They are among the universes most copious eaters of jellyfish, and a worldwide temperature alteration seems, by all accounts, to be bringing about an upsurge of jellyfish numbers. The greatest common predators of sea sunfish areâ orcasâ andâ sea lions. Sea Sunfish and Humans In spite of their colossal size, sea sunfish are innocuous to people. They move gradually and are likely more scared of us than we are of them. Since they are not viewed as a decent food fish in many spots, their greatest dangers are likely being hit by pontoons and being gotten as bycatch in angling gear. <img information srcset=https://www.thoughtco.com/thmb/10VDWuQnGkue2gTo4AHyjdgUPeg=/300x0/filters:no_upscale():max_bytes(150000):strip_icc()/GettyImages-128919900-5bd61fed46e0fb0026cbf981.jpg 300w, https://www.thoughtco.com/thmb/QYnRNskLOHKz1gnWtObrHPkmlZU=/600x0/filters:no_upscale():max_bytes(150000):strip_icc()/GettyImages-128919900-5bd61fed46e0fb0026cbf981.jpg 600w, https://www.thoughtco.com/thmb/XjOBegZwG_xiJaxlIQ4fgK5rxSU=/900x0/filters:no_upscale():max_bytes(150000):strip_icc()/GettyImages-128919900-5bd61fed46e0fb0026cbf981.jpg 900w, https://www.thought

Margin Case Of Certain Good And Industries ââ¬Myassignmenthelp.Com
Question: Discuss About The Margin Case Of Certain Good And Industries? Answer: Introduction Business is not a static entity as it goes on changing its operations and behavior according to the need of the system. it changes its policy such as pricing policy, management policy and others to increase the sale of the business and earn maximum revenue. However, while formulating the policy the business requires to analyze the effect on various types of goods it supplies in the market and he perception of the consumer regarding the goods. The profit of an organization differs according to the demand for its products in the marketing. On the other hand, the demand for the product depends on its price as well as other factors. The report discusses the effect of price drop on the demand for various products and its effect on the profit of the organization. It further compares whether a drop in price has same effect on various kinds goods and industry. Interpretation and analysis of Literature Previous literature has given an argumentative discussion about the effect of price drop on the demand of the product and in turn on the total profit of the business. Here are literatures that show that a drop in price need not necessarily increase demand for the product and profit of the firm. According to Hill et al. (2017), a decrease in the price of the product does leads to increase in demand for the product for a short period. This is because slowly in the end, other competitor industry will adjust their product prices and the demand for the product is spread which lowers the sale volume. Thus, in other words it has been stated that with a drop in prices a company will make profit in the short run and its profit margin decreases in the long run. However, it has be further argued by Chen et al. (2017) it is not always necessary that a fall in price for goods will increase the demand for the product and profit for the firm. This is because a market is affected by various factors and variable and in order to estimate the effect of price change in the market it is necessary to analyze the market trend and reaction of the market. Timpson (2017) has put forward similar discussion that fall in price does not always mean that there will be an increase in profit. This is because sometimes a fall in price reduces the value of the product conceived in the mind of the consumers causing a decrease in price rather than demand. However, Maverick (2014) has argued that a decrease in price always means an increase in the profit and sale of the business. The author stated this condition to be true on the condition that market variables are steady. Analyzing the Application of General Principle to Luxury Goods According to the general principle of demand, it is stated that with a fall in price of the good the demand for that good rises in the market. This is turn increase the profit margin of an organization (Mankiw 2014). However, it is seen that there are various good in the market and the importance of those goods to type consumers differ for various factors. The goods preset in the market are luxury goods, Giffen goods, necessity goods, inferior goods and other. The effect on demand due to fall in price differs for these goods. For instance, luxury goods are goods that are consumed by the people as a symbol of status and richness. It is not a necessity for the consumers and hence a fall in price of such good will not affect its demand largely. An example of luxury goods is diamond jewelry that is wore by the consumers to show their status and class. Thus, a decrease in price of diamond jewelry will not encourage people to buy more of that jewelry (Reis 2015). The consumers that wear di amonds will still prefer it even at a high price. This proves that demand for luxury goods does not change with a change in price. Hence, it is seen that for organization selling luxury good, the profit margin does not change even with a drop in prices. This also supports he arguments put forward by Timpson (2017) regarding the conceived value of the goods by the consumers. Application of General Principle Different Goods The law of demand can also be applied on various goods such as Giffen goods, necessity good, substitute goods and normal goods. For Giffen good the law of demand does not apply as it is considered as one of the exception to the law of demand. Giffen good are goods for which the demand falls with a fall in price. This is because Giffen goods are inferior quality goods and are mostly consumed by lower income group people. Thus with a fall in price of these goods, the consumers shifts their demand for some better kinds of goods that has become affordable now (Landi 2015). Thus, for such goods the profit does not increases with a fall in prices. On the other hand, necessity goods are goods without which the consumer cannot think their life. Thus, a fall in prices does not have any effect on the demand for such goods. This is because with a fall in price the consumers accounting consume more of such goods even if it is a necessity. For example, medicine is an example of necessity goods an d thus, medicine business does not enjoy much increase in profit with a drop in price. However, only in case of normal good a business can make profit with an increase in demand due to a fall in price. An example of such goods is clothes, shoes and others. however, there are other factors such as market trend that does reduces the profit margin of such goods to some extent. Application of General Principle on Different Industries The increase in demand for goods with a fall in price also differs across various industries. This is because with a fall in price of some branded company or industry makes the consumer lower the value of their products and thus reducing the demand further (Timpson 2017). For example, most of companies in sport industry are branded and a fall in prices of their products makes the consumers feel that they have lowered the quality of shoes they manufacture. Thus, consumers are forced to cut down the demand for the shoes manufactured by shoes companies. On the other hand, a decrease in price of grocery industry does increase the demand for such goods because people tend to buy more and store it for longer period and causing an increase in profit margin of such industry. This shows that the change in demand with a fall in prices also differs according to the type of industry the company is engaged in. this difference also depends on the thinking of consumers regarding such goods and thei r relation with the price. Moreover, the industry having large number of substitute of its good will not receive an increase in profit for a longer time from a fall in its price as there are competitors that will slowly adjust their prices in the market. For branded goods, consumers have a different mindset and for grocery goods, they have a different mindset causing the differences in demand and profit margin. Differences in Theory Application between Consumer and Business The theory of law of demand applies differently between the consumers and the business. This is because a good for which the consumer thinks is a necessity good and it will not change its demand depending on the price. For the same good, the business might think that a fall in the price of its goods might increase the demand and profit margin. Thus, differences in the application of theory between both the entities are influenced by the perception of the consumers and the businesspersons. Moreover, the differences also arise due to lack of information transfer between the consumers and the producers. a fully informed producer can easily trace the need of the consumer, their trend and the trend of their competitors and work accordingly for earning more profit by decreasing price. Conclusion From the above discussion, it can be deduced that the effect of fall in price and increase in demand on the profit margin of a company depends on various factors such as the type of goods, time span, competitors and the substitute o the goods in the market. Moreover, it also differs according to the information the consumers and the producers conceive about each other in the economy. Thus, from the comparative advantage it is seen that a fall in price does increase the profit of the business that produce normal good and has less number of substitute in the market. However, it is true for some goods and does not apply in goods such as Giffen goods and inferior goods. References Chen, Y., Eshleman, J.D. and Soileau, J.S., 2016. The European Economic Community And The Euro Dollar Essays
The European Economic Community And The Euro Dollar EEC and the Euro Dollar The European Economic Community (EEC), also known as the common market, was established in 1957 through the treaty of Rome signed between Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Germany in order to achieve economic cooperation. It has since worked for the free movement of labor and capital, the abolition of trusts and cartels, and the development of joint and reciprocal policies on labor, social welfare, agriculture, transport, and foreign trade. Over the years, monetary union has been suggested by the members of the EEC and was finally attained on January 1,1999 when eleven European countries, which are now collectively referred to as Euroland, introduced a single currency, the euro. Since then, the euro has invaded nearly every sector of the world economy. The monetary revolution embodied in the euro involves far more then the elimination of 11 currencies and the distributions of colorful new banknotes and coins across Europe. It entails the solidification of the E uropean Unions common market for goods and services, major structural changes in countries plagued by fiscal imprudence, and the reorganization of monetary policy in some of the worlds most advanced industrialized economies The risks of implementing the euro consist of supply shocks and political discord. Although the ongoing risks of maintaining Economic monetary union may hinder the stability of the euro in the long run, the integration of the euro to the EEC as of January 1999, has so far proven to have a positive affect on the European economy and has allowed it to achieve its primary political and economic goals through its four core benefits: the reduction of transaction costs, the elimination of exchange rate risks, increased price transparency, and the creation of deep financial markets. The Euro is the newly created currency of the European Economic Community, a currency that became legal tender on January 1, 1999. By 2002, euro notes and coins will replace the Austrian schilling, Belgian franc, Finnish markka, French franc, German mark, Irish punt, Italian lira, Luxembourg franc, Dutch guilder, Portuguese escudo, and Spanish peseta. These 11 nations will share a common currency, a single monetary policy, and a single foreign exchange rate policy. Currencies not only serve as a standardized value of measurement, so that we have a consistent way of expressing value, but they also function as an efficient means of payment. Also they serve as a store of value, allowing us to transport wealth easily over a distance and to store it for indefinite periods of time. There are two main reasons for this monetary union within the EEC (European Economic Community), one being a political reason and the other an economic reason. The political arguments are that a single currency will further unite the European alliance, which was formed after WWII, by forcing Europe to act as a whole rather than as single states. This could perhaps eliminate nationalism and bring unity to this continent, which has been plagued by war twice in the last century. The Economic reasons for the euro project can be found in the relatively poor performance of the European economies over the last twenty years or more. Europe has, for a long time, suffered form relatively weak economic growth. Economic growth that trailed behind that in North America and Asia: productivity gains were weak; unemployment remained persistently high; and many European countries suffered form persistently high wage and price inflation. This was generally thought to be caused by relatively rigid and inflexible labor markets; a high level of government involvement in the economy; a less enterprising culture compared, in particular, to that in North America; and a poorer track record of innovation and research and development. The euro has given Europe one of the largest and most powerful trading blocs in the world. Although the euro doesnt alter the fact that Euroland is composed of diverse and highly independent countries, it strengthens the economic and political ties of the region and its part in the world economy. Because of the success of the euro will ultimately be determined by the collaboration of EEC governments through the formulation of exchange rate policy to the harmonization of legal systems and security

The Discovery of Otzi the Iceman and Its Significance
The Discovery of Otzi the Iceman and Its Significance On September 19, 1991, two German tourists were hiking in the Otzal Alps near the Italian-Austrian border when they discovered Europes oldest known mummy sticking out of the ice. Otzi, as the iceman is now known, had been naturally mummified by the ice and kept in amazing condition for approximately 5,300 years. Research on Otzis preserved body and the various artifacts found with it continues to reveal much about the life of Copper Age Europeans. The Discovery Around 1:30 p.m. on September 19, 1991, Erika and Helmut Simon from Nuremberg, Germany were descending from the Finail peak in the Tisenjoch area of the Otzal Alps when they decided to take a shortcut off the beaten path. When they did so, they noticed something brown sticking out of the ice. Upon further inspection, the Simons discovered that it was a human corpse. Although they could see the back of the head, arms, and back, the bottom of the torso was still embedded in the ice. The Simons took a picture and then reported their discovery at the Similaun Refuge. At the time, however, the Simons and the authorities all thought the body belonged to a modern man who had recently suffered a deadly accident. Removing Otzis Body Removing a frozen body thats stuck in the ice at 10,530 feet (3,210 meters) above sea level is never easy. Adding bad weather and a lack of proper excavation equipment made the job even more difficult. After four days of trying, Otzis body was finally removed from the ice on September 23, 1991. Sealed up in a body bag, Otzi was flown via helicopter to the town of Vent, where his body was transferred to a wooden coffin and taken to the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Innsbruck. At Innsbruck, archaeologist Konrad Spindler determined that the body found in the ice was definitely not a modern man; instead, he was at least 4,000 years old. It was then that they realized that Otzi the Iceman was one of the most amazing archaeological finds of the century. Once it was realized that Otzi was an extremely important discovery, two teams of archaeologists went back to the discovery site to see if they could find more artifacts. The first team stayed only three days, October 3-5, 1991, because the winter weather was too harsh to work in. The second archaeology team waited until the following summer, surveying from July 20 to August 25 1992. This team found numerous artifacts, including string, muscle fibers, a piece of a longbow, and a bearskin hat. Who Was Otzi the Iceman? Otzi was a man who lived sometime between 3350 and 3100 BCE in what is called the Chalcolithic or Copper Age. He stood approximately five feet and three inches high and at the end of his life suffered from arthritis, gallstones, and whipworm. He died at about the age of 46. At first, it was believed that Otzi had died from exposure, but in 2001 an X-ray revealed that there was a stone arrowhead embedded in his left shoulder. A CT scan in 2005 discovered that the arrowhead had severed one of the Otzis arteries, most likely causing his death. A large wound on Otzis hand was another indicator that Otzi had been in close combat with someone shortly before his death. Scientists have recently discovered that Otzis last meal consisted of a few slices of fatty, cured goat meat, similar to modern-day bacon. But many questions remain regarding Otzi the Iceman. Why did Otzi have over 50 tattoos on his body? Were the tattoos part of an ancient form of acupuncture? Who killed him? Why was the blood of four people found on his clothes and weapons? Perhaps more research will help answer these and other questions about Otzi the Iceman.Ã Otzi on Display After seven years of study at Innsbruck University, Otzi the Iceman was transported to South Tyrol, Italy, where he was to be both further studied and put on display. At the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology, Otzi was encased within a specially made chamber, which is kept dark and refrigerated to help preserve Otzis body. Visitors to the museum can glimpse Otzi through a small window. To remember the place where Otzi had remained for 5,300 years, a stone marker was placed at the discovery site.

How does online shoppers' behaviour differ from traditional shoppers Essay - 1
How does online shoppers' behaviour differ from traditional shoppers - Essay Example of terms 30 Investigative report Abstract Shopping is a part of everydayââ¬â¢s life. Some fulfils their necessities from shopping while some get something more from shopping. It is viewed as releasing the stress and a way for completing some desire in mind or a way for adding flavour to the mechanical way of life. There are two types of shopping in general, traditional shopping and online shopping. Both of them have merits and demerits respectively. Now-a-days, large number of people goes for shopping by means of internet. This has been possible due to the prevalence of computer. The trend of online shopping came with the booming of internet. Thousands of items are reflected on the screen by clicking in one word. This does not require roaming across a long road through the hustling crowds for getting a pair of items. What is required is to have a click on the keyboard and the goods will be delivered on the spot. The advent of internet has an impact in our everyday lives in all way s like the manner we communicate to the way we shop. The increase in sophisticated technology in the 21st century has made everything virtually possible like purchase of an outfit of Armani who has been wearing pyjamas which was once seemed as an outlandish idea. The starts of retailing on web from sometime in the middle to late 1990s have given rise to the debate of online vs. traditional shopping. This debate is still ongoing. Though shoppers have thronged the shopping centres, as it is done in internet but still the question remains as to whether everything will be conquered by online shopping or the survival of traditional shopping will remain in the increasing trend of e-shopping. Introduction The rising debate of online shopping vs. traditional shopping can be viewed from the angle of considering the pros and cons of traditional and online shopping. The main advantage of online shopping is that it eliminates the need to make a drive to somewhere for purchasing something. So, t here arises no frustration to deal with parking problems and traffic. Besides, in case of traditional shopping, half of the petrol is consumed while going for shopping. With rise in prices of petrol, the cost of shopping also increases. This money is however saved in case of online shopping. The money needed to be paid in case of online shopping is enough to purchase few gifts or items. The precious time is saved by way of online shopping. In the busy lives lead by us these days, anything that can contribute towards saving in time can prove as a boon. While shopping online, it takes only a minute to log on to internet and to access the website of store as per choice (Khosrowpour, 2006, pp.30-31). Further, it can take only ten to fifteen minutes for selecting the items to be purchased, again further five minutes for filling information about payment and to get a print of receipt. All total, it will take only thirty minutes to complete the shopping. This facility of saving in time can provide quality time to be spent with the kids and an extra time to watch movies. Literature review Difference between online and traditional shopping Again, online shopping provides a sense of ease and comfort against traditional shopping which requires running in high streets and hunting for the things required. The Benefits of Hands-on Training Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words
The Benefits of Hands-on Training - Essay Example For the purposes of this paper, an OH&S inspection tour of a meat-processing plant has been established (more details of this tour can be found in Appendix A). The discussion of this tour answers four main questions: I outlined the problem at hand: how to design a training tool that would meet the needs of trainees. I made an outline that represented the challenges and requirements, and focused on the key tenets that I wanted trainees to bring away from their time at the meat-processing plant. These key tenets are contained in Appendix A. My prior experience in taking and conducting inspection tours helped me in compiling a list of requirements for participants to follow, educational activities, pre-trip instruction for my trainees, and a list of procedures for the training day itself. This movement from prior memory to existing project was the result of schema activation. The actual task of conducting the inspection, as outlined in Appendix A, shows how I took the problem and broke it down into such parts as the site and time of the inspection, the particular trainees, my goals and objectives, the specific training activities, and ways to evaluate the quality of the training. As fa As far as personal involvement goes, the development of the training procedure originated in my own personal experiences and memories, and the schema formation showed considerable time and reflection. Additionally, the process of choosing specific training activities and eliminating other potential activities demonstrates a level of critical thinking (Bruning, Schraw, Ronning 1999). Another way to describe this process of critical examination, combined with preparation of a specific task, is metacognition, which connects knowledge and regulation of cognition (Schraw, 1998). Task Analysis: Question Two Before entering the training environment, the participants will receive a set of problems to solve while they are engaged in the exercise. Another of Gick's diagrams (1986) can be used to show the mental processes involved: Here, the dotted line represents the mental process used by the participants to move from problem to solution. Because the process of inspecting a meat-processing plant will be new to most, if not all, of the trainees, there will be no schema based on prior experience (Tovey, 1999). Several

Nordstrom Case Study Essay Example for Free
Nordstrom Case Study Essay Answer 1: In the 1990s, Nordstrom had six co-presidents who were six cousins belonging to the familyââ¬â¢s fourth generation. All six cousins took decisions jointly on major issues concerning the business. Thus, it was necessary that all six co-presidents agree on a decision or a plan for it to be acted upon. This was quite a difficult task as all of them often had differing opinions. Due to this many decisions were delayed or met with resistance by one or the other member. These six co-presidents were compared to a multi-headed hydra. Dismantling the hydra would prevent conflicts on future decisions and would also enable decisions to be taken quickly. It will also vest the ownership for the decisions onto one person. It will also enable a family member to be groomed for possibly leading the company one day. The possible disadvantages of dismantling the hydra is that the six co-presidents could have all contributed their knowledge and experience and have arrived at a better more informed decision. If equal power is vested in six people at the top, it enables them to share the workload. Answer 2: Creating departments around products will create independent profit and loss units for each product. The members of each department will have expertise on their products. They will know how to procure those products and effective sales and marketing techniques to sell those products better. This will narrow down their focus and they will concentrate only on the product that they are selling and will gain expertise on how to sell it best. The possible disadvantages of creating departments around products are that the employees will not have a complete picture of the entire business and where they stand. If in future, they are moved to another department, they will have to gain information about that product from scratch. Answer 3: The following changes prompted the move from mechanistic to organic organization. In the 1990s, the company met with stiff competition from its competitors. Its sales began to plateau. Its net income fell 2% and sales edged up only 1.9%. In the stores that had been open for a year, its sales dipped 1.1% after a 2.6% drop the prior year. Nordstroms shares fell from a 1999 high of 44 3/16 to under 20 in February. The customers and outsiders complained that top executives spent more time in seeking consensus of all co-presidents on issues and this was a reason for Nordstrom being slow in presenting new fashions for sales. Answer 4: In designing an organization to manage change, an additional structural change that Mr. Whitacre should consider is to start a competition among the departments. In this quarterly competition, the department that has the best sales and profits should be the winner and its members should be given some incentives. They should be asked to share the best practices with the other departments in order to help them manage change better. Employees should be rotated regularly from one department to another.

Dickinson and Her religion :: essays research papers fc
Dickinson and her Religion Emily Dickinson was one of the greatest woman poets. She left us with numerous works that show us her secluded world. Like other major artists of nineteenth-century American introspection such as Emerson, Thoreau, and Melville, Dickinson makes poetic use of her vacillations between doubt and faith. The style of her first efforts was fairly conventional, but after years of practice she began to give room for experiments. Often written in the meter of hymns, her poems dealt not only with issues of death, faith and immortality, but with nature, domesticity, and the power and limits of language. à à à à à Dickinsonââ¬â¢s Christian education affected her profoundly, and her desire for a human intuitive faith motivates and enlivens her poetry. Yet what she has faith in tends to be left undefined because she assumes that it is unknowable. There are many unknown subjects in her poetry among them: Death and the afterlife, God, nature, artistic and poetic inspiration, oneââ¬â¢s own mind, and other human beings. à à à à à Dickinson was educated in a traditionally Protestant, provincial community and in a religious conservative schools and churches in Amherst and South Hadley. This affected Dickinson as a poet of religious concern, stimulating her to opposition as well as reverence. The Calvinist God she was taught to worship was an arbitrary God of absolute power. She struggles prodigiously in her writing against such an image of God, but also invokes it normally. à à à à à Emily Dickinsonââ¬â¢s imagination is dynamic partly because she thinks of her mental world as always in flux and prefers not to adhere for long to any preconceived religious of philosophical doctrine. At different times she advances opposed positions on such central questions as the goodness of God, the reality of heaven, or the presence of the divine in nature. As a child of her culture, the fixed positions of her local Calvinism are inscribed in her mind and heart, while at the same time she distrusts them and seeks an alternative faith that will be truer to her moral conceptions. Since she takes different positions on religious questions, it has proved hard for commentators to summarize her religious perspective. à à à à à At the start of her career she assembles her poems in fascicles and sets, thus giving them a separate existence as poems, while later she experiments increasingly with a style of letter writing in which the border between verse and prose tends to disappear, and she writes poetically wherever she wants to (Martin).

The Rise Of The Great Depression - 1283 Words
When you think about the late 1920ââ¬â¢s-1930 in the economic sense the first and possibly only thing that would come to mind is the Great Depression. Started by the stock market crash of October 1929, it had put many of the investors into an economic downspin. This caused consumer spending and investments to drop dramatically, ââ¬Å"investments fell nearly 80 percent between 1929 and 1933â⬠^1. This also led many companies to go out of business forcing them to lay off their employees. At the peak of the Great Depression around thirteen million Americans were unemployed. This also included government employees. In fact ââ¬Å"government workers, declined about 24 percent between 1929 and 1933 and remained 18 percent below it 1929 level in 1939â⬠^2. Banksâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The stock market crash was the first of chain events that would put the United States into the longest economic crisis it would ever see. The year of 1929 was an odd one due to the fact tha t businesses were expanding, but employees were still being under paid so much that due to business expansion the workers could not fuel it any longer. This is why the stock market crash was inevitable. Only due to the fact that companies profits were rising but employees were still poor leading to dropped spending on the consumers part. When stock holders got news of what was going on they started to pull and sell their shares. Sold shares ââ¬Å"recorded 13 million on ââ¬Å"Black Thursdayâ⬠[and around] four days later another 16 million shares were sold after another wave of panicâ⬠. In the time of the Great Depression banks did not run on the guarantees with costumers. Foster Care System Final Essay - 3845 Words
Foster Care System: Children without families SOC 331: Social Justice and Ethics Bernie Colon November 14, 2011 Raising children is one of the most important responsibilities in any society. Today, working parents have many options, but what about those children who have neither a mother nor father? What about those children who come from broken and abusive homes? In such cases there are often few choices. Parentless children may be placed in orphanages or in foster homes. Ideally, foster care offers children more personalized attention than would normally be available at a public or private situation. However, orphanage care is notoriously uneven. While some children are indeed in loving homes, others find themselves neglected orâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Fortunately, more than half of children in the foster care system get reunited with their birth parents or primary caregivers. In addition, more than 2 million children live with grandparents or other relatives because they were not able to return to live with their parents. Approximately half of the children in foster care spend at leas t 2 years in the system and one in five children remains in the system for 5 years or more. Some children in foster care move between families as many as seven times during their stay. The number of children in the foster care system continues to increase. While the foster care system is essential in helping abused, abandoned, and neglected children, many children remain in foster care for long periods of time when family reunification or adoption is planned. Court delays can often extend the time between when children enter the foster care system and when they are placed into permanent homes. Significant differences exist in the quality of care and outcomes for children depending on their race and ethnicity. The percentage of children of color in the foster care system is larger than the percentage of children of color among the general U.S. population. However, the occurrence of child abuse and neglect is at about the same rate in all racial/ethnic groups. Hypothetical Business And Features assignment essay
Question: Discuss about the Hypothetical Business. Answer: Introduction A hypothetical business is a conjecture business. It means an imaginary business and in this context that if all the resources were made available I would venture in. This essay explores this hypothetical business that I would begin after provision of the necessary resources like time, funds and drive in terms of size, organization structure, company, business environment among other related factors. In the identification of this hypothetical business, it is very important to consider a few things like the availability of resources, government policy and market among other things(Rainelli Weiss, 2016). After this consideration, a large-scale rearing of fish is this business that I would pursue as a start-up. The term start-up means a new business to venture. Aquaculture is one of those fields that generally generate a lot of income and hence beginning such a business will likely lead me to success Features of the organization Business size is a key feature to consider about any organization. The floor space covered by a particular business determines its capability and can be used as a ranking tool. My firm would involve the large-scale production of fish that covers a really substantial area. In fact, it would be one of the biggest aquariums if not the biggest in the world. In the business context, several firms covering the same field of specialization make an industry (Hsu, 2017).The industry of my business, therefore, would be fish production and selling. This means that I will be among those entrepreneurs who are in the same field of specialization.Again, my business would specialize in the provision of goods as opposed to business. When choosing the country in which a particular business would operate one has to be very keen. This is because you need to ensure that what you provide exactly rhymes with the market needs. Statistics show that China is the leading country in aquaculture followed byIndonesia, India, Vietnam and other countries(Human, 2017). Having considered these stats, I would, therefore, locate my business in China to serve both the local and international market like Australia, Switzerland and America among other countries. This is because I will not take time in building the foundation for aquaculture. I will find this already done and growing will be easy because I wont take time convincing buyers that eating fish is good because they already have the experience. It is important also to provide a good business strategy. This is what actually dictates that future of the business. It dictates whether the business goals will be reached and if yes when they can likely be achieved(Leonidou, 2017). I would ensure that there is a good organizational strategy and cooperation among all the business functions to ensure that my objectives are gotten. The vision, on the other hand of any businesses, gives its prophecy about the future. The vision of my business would be ensuring customer satisfaction and maintaining the first position in aquaculture. The best organizational structure Organizational structure in the business context means the arrangement of different functions of the business. Every business should have a well-organized structure. This structure determines the ease ofmanagement and the flow of activities. A relevant structure allows the business to enjoy goodmanagement and conducive environment for the business operations. The organizational structure is defined by the senior leadership and board(Lugli, 2017).There are several organizational structures and these include the matrix, customer, product, geographical, functional organizational structures among others. These structures are used in different types of business. This is to mean that every business usually has its most suitable structure. In my business of rearing and the sale of fish, because it covers more than one region and also different countries the most suitable organizational structure would be the geographical organizational structure. Due to the fact that my firm supplies fish to both the local and external markets, an organizational structure that is organized by regions would be the most suitable. In this structure, there are usually officials in every served country who report to a central oversight person(Wood, 2016). This is the most suitable structure because of the fact that my business serves a span of countries. Internal and external environmental factors and their effect on the business Environmental factors in a business refer to factors that affect the business from either within or without itself. This comprises of the macro business environment and the macro business environment. Micro business environment refers to all those factors that originate from the business itself while macro business environment means those factors that are from outside the business(Ashton, 2017). To begin with, internal business environment comprises of owners, business culture, resources and business structure. Owners start the business and manage it. They are the key decision makers and this affects the success of the business. An owner would provide the required resources like water, electricity among others. Again, there are external business factors like culture, competition, demographic factors and legal political, economic among others. Culture is a key determinant of the kind of the business as well as its location. It helps you determine whether the societal norms are opposed to the consumption of your product or not(Gaspar, 2016). Therefore, culture would influence the location of my business. The other is legal political factors. This refers to whether the proposed business is allowed in the country of venture or not. Before starting my aquariums I would determine whether the government allows domestic rearing of fish or not. The economy also would affect my business either positively or negatively. If my customers are able to buy my products my business will be okay but if they are not in a position to my business will be likely to fail. The population of the regions covered by my business still affect the business. If this population increase rapidly I would be sure to make many sales as opposed to when the population is decreasing. The competition also affects the business (Boone, 2015). It is obvious that there will be competition from the pre-establishedfirms. However, I should be able to devise ways of competingfavorably to achieve my business objectives. Risks that will confront my business organization Risks are perils or threats that might occur in themanagement or any function of the business organization in its day to day running. There are several of these that will compromise my organization. Among them is reputation risk. This is the risk of getting a bad name that might negatively affect my business. This may result from a mistake done in any of the business functions. Compliance risk might confront my business too. There might come a time where the legal requirements for aquaculture may change abruptly making me unable to abide by them(Arvanitis, 2016). Another risk is the strategic risk. This arises where the previously well-laid structure becomes non-functional or out-dated. Lastly, there is also the operational risk. This involves unexpected failures in the daily running of the business due to factors like power or water supply. Business practices that I would use to enhance my business performance There are actually a number of business practices that I would use to enhance my business performance. For instance, I would ensure proper business acumen. It is very critical to ensure that the virtues and values of business like respect, integrity among other virtues are adhered to. Another practice is the involvement of all the people. I would ensure that all the people feel part and parcel of the business and that none feels neglected. In this way, the business performance is enhanced. Employee motivation is another practice. It is important to show your employees that you value them(Behari, 2015). Therefore, I would ensure they are motivated in several ways to make them perform better. I would also ensure proper record keeping. This ensures transparency and accountability, especially in the financial sector. This will avoid chaos and bring about easy auditing. Lastly,I would ensure that there is teamwork among all the employees. This means that they work with togetherness and co hesion. This makes the business run smoothly Functions within the business and how they relate to its performance Fish keeping like any other business has different functions. These functions cooperate harmoniously to ensure that the business runs smoothly and that its long-term goal is achieved. The most important functions within my business will be production, purchasing, marketing, human resource management, research and development and the accounting and financial functions(Stewart, 2016). To begin with, the production function will be responsible for all activities in the rearing of the fish. The purchasing department serves all functions related to purchases. The marketing department sells the fish and markets the business to all the relevant regions. The human resource is responsible for acquisition and employment of employees as well as looking into their needs. The research and development function investigates matters concerning the market and related roles(Taylor, 2017). Lastly, the financial and accounting function manages cash inflow and outflow. It is responsible for creating all the necessary accounts, balancing the trial balance and giving financial reports. These functions dictate the business performance. If they take their responsibility as required there is the good performance. However, if any function neglects its duty, the business performance will go low. Conclusion Conclusively, the art of starting any businesses, whether large or small must be accompanied by a deep research about the market and policy. A number of factors affect a business. These dictate the direction the business will take as far as functionality is concerned. There are also many perils that may confront a business but they should be handled appropriately to ensure that the business progresses well. Business practices should be aimed at acquiring the best performance and all the functions in the business should work responsibly and cooperatively to make the business a success. Relating Marxist Theory with the Business Cycle in Economics free essay sample
Marx question essay How does an over-abundance of goods produce an apparent famine (depression)? Is it possible to produce too much as Marx contends and if so, how can such overproduction be prevented? When Marx says over production causes famine he is referring to the economic/ business cycle. This is a theory which had been confirmed by the ââ¬Ëthe panic of 1825ââ¬â¢a stock market crash that started in the Bank of England arising in part out of speculative investments in Latin America, including the imaginary country of Poyais. This is how it works: The growth trend refers to potential Gross domestic Product (GDP) or simply the level of economic growth, which is desiredi. e. in which the level of unemployment neither below nor above the optimal level. The bending arrows represent the actual level of economic growth achieved or RealGross domestic Product (RGDP). This is alsocalled real output aslabeled on in the diagram. We will write a custom essay sample on Relating Marxist Theory with the Business Cycle in Economics or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Aggregate demand is the total amount of goods and services that all buyers in an economy want to buy at different prices, Aggregate supply is the total quantity of goods and services produced in an economy at different price levels) This happens in perpetual cycles that cannot usually be accurately predicteduntil it is too late. Governments and the market try to ease the effects of these cycles. When Marx says ââ¬Å"a great part not only of the existing products, but also of the previously created productive forces, are periodically destroyedâ⬠he is referring to the collapse of markets, the closure of business and the loss of jobs that happen during recessions. And when he saysââ¬Å"famineâ⬠and ââ¬Å"a state of momentary barbarismâ⬠he is talking of the effects of these collapses such as widespread unemployment, shortages of food, protests and riots and a general reduction in standards of living. Despite the unpredictability of the economic cycle what is certain is that a recession follows a boom. In a boomas more is produced people earn more and spend more, as a result prices become higher, and when prices become too high people are in effect earning less and they spend less therefore then the economy goes into recession, eventually the process repeats itself. This is why it can be contended that overproduction causes this famine. In Marxââ¬â¢s eyes the destructive effects of the cycle become worse and worse each time it occurs and this will eventually lead to the total collapse of the system itself. The only remedy to this problem would be a complete upheaval of this system. This is because of the way it its intrinsically structured. Marx says isââ¬Å"Constant revolutionizing of production, uninterrupted disturbance of all social conditions, everlasting uncertainty and agitation distinguish the bourgeois epoch from all earlier ones. â⬠What this means is that the system is built in such a way that production needs to keep changing and expanding; as old markets close new ones open up and this continues on in this way. This causes the fluctuations in aggregate demand and supply and consequently the cycle of boom and recession. So while society may try to ease the effects of the fluctuations the fluctuations themselves cannot be stopped. Thus another way of providing for the needs of people needs to be developed, the bourgeoisie needs to be uprooted and a system of communism put in place. If material wealth is distributed on the basis of need there should never be over-production, there will be no need for continual exploitation of new markets and thus the economic cycle should no longer occur. Marxââ¬â¢s thinking makes a lot of sense especially when observing the effects of economic downturns since the panic of 1825. Their effects have gotten increasingly worse. In latest downturns we see record high rates of unemployment and record lowstandards of living globally. However the claim that this directly arises from over-production can be disputed because of the basic principle of supply and demand. Production in a Capitalist economy is driven by demand. If people are willing to purchase goods at certain prices they will be produced by profit seeking (1) http://en. wikipedia. org/wiki/Business_cycle#Marxist_economics suppliers. If demand falls, production falls and vice versa. Therefore one can argue that production is dependent on societiesââ¬â¢ needs and wants so any overproduction will be an impossibility, as nothing that is not demandedwill be produced. This has the implication that the fluctuations in the economy are caused by societiesââ¬â¢ demands. However if society were to bearranged in such a way that the means of production were commonly owned and wealth was distributed by basis of need then the fluctuations would affect everyone equally and would effectively cause no real problem. In this situation a communist system would be essential Overall one would say that Marxââ¬â¢s idea seems to hold water. This is especially because of the historical evidence we have of economic crises even long after his death. Nevertheless there are some inconsistencies in what he contends and those need to be addressed for his system to work. As I stated in class there should have been more distinction between Marxist economic theory.
